At the face of S3H, the Department of Development Studies, established in 2016, has been deploying inclusive knowledge and critical thinking skills in rural development, politics, economics, sociology, anthropology, peace and conflict, climate change etc. The department has been producing a class of researchers and development practitioners through quality teaching and applied research, yet thriving to uplift NUST in world’s reputed higher education institutions.

We thrive to develop your critical analysis and problem solving quantitative and qualitative skills in the superior cross-cultural setting of the major themes of development as well as in contemporary debates in the discipline. MS Development Studies equips students with applied professional skills to face critical contemporary world's challenges that are extended from poverty to governance, inequity to human rights, conflict to peacebuilding and social injustice to climate change. Thus, it offers opportunities to build diverse and rewarding career paths in local and international development agencies e.g. UN I/NGOs, Think-Tanks, Civil society organizations, and so on.
