History of S3H
The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) is a leading educational institution of Pakistan. It embodies a vision of becoming a leader in providing cutting edge education in emerging and traditional fields of sciences and technology as well as social sciences and humanities.
The School of Social Sciences & Humanities (S3H) being part of Pakistan’s top notch institution—NUST, traces its history back to 1999, when NUST Institute of Management Sciences (NIMS) was established. NIMS was renamed as NUST Business School (NBS) in 2008 and was moved from Rawalpindi to the lush green NUST H-12 campus in Islamabad.
In 2013, the university sought to establish a dedicated school for social sciences and humanities, so five departments: economics, mass communication, behavioural sciences, government and public policy, and development studies—operating under NBS were combined to form S3H. Along with that, the school now also has China Studies Center (2016) and Center of Excellence on Population and Wellbeing Studies (2023) working under its banner. The school relocated to its own new, state-of-the-art building in 2015. Currently, S3H has 6 departments, including humanities established in 2024.
S3H is committed to high-quality undergraduate and post-graduate instruction across the social sciences and humanities. Our interdisciplinary areas of expertise include economics, psychology, career counselling, environment and sustainability, public policy, media and communication, data science & analytics, international relations, security policy perspectives, peace, conflict & development, social work & community development, and linguistics.
We pride ourselves on providing students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on educational experiences and apply academic concepts, strategies and techniques practically to contemporary real-world issues.
In a decade, S3H has made its mark as one of the premier schools of social sciences and humanities in Pakistan and a training ground par excellence for future leaders.
