Dr. Sahira Jabeen is currently serving as Assistant Professor at the Department of Mass Communication, School of Social Sciences & Humanities, NUST. Additionally, she is working on the position of Associate Editor (member of the editorial board) for NUST Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities (NJSSH). She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Multimodal Studies from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. Her doctoral research focuses on the interdisciplinary area(s) of multimodal communication with social semiotics and linguistics perspectives to explore the portrayal of Pakistani socio-cultural dynamics through food-related TV advertising. Her research interests encompass a range of sociocultural phenomena at the intersection of representation, visual and audiovisual communication, multimodal narrativity/storytelling, and socio-semiotic multimodal discourse analysis approaches to understand TV advertising strategies, trans rights activism in online spaces, identity, and cultural representations. Dr. Sahira has been teaching at various levels, from O Level IGCSE to university. Internationally, she has contributed extensively to research on international student experiences and mental health. She served as a Graduate Research Assistant at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, where she was involved in a research project examining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on international students' experiences. Additionally, she collaborated with the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre as a Research Assistant, where she conducted qualitative data analysis on resilience and well-being among house officers, contributing to a deeper understanding of mental health dynamics in medical environments. She is an awardee of Pakistan Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) award of scholarship under “Partial Support for PhD Studies Abroad” in May 2022. Her expertise includes qualitative research methods, academic writing, and AI in research. She has published her research in prestigious Web of Science journals and presented at international conferences as well. Currently, she is a member of The International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS-AIS), France.
