Summary

Usman Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Development Studies at the School of Social Sciences and Humanities, NUST. He has completed his PhD in Anthropology from the School of Sociology and Anthropology, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China. He also completed his postdoc at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Xian International Studies University, China. His teaching and research span applied anthropology, legal anthropology, the anthropology of borderlands, development theory, Conflict and Development, and State and Security Challenges to Development, with a special focus on South Asian contexts. His work engages critically with state power, displacement, informality, and identity, often drawing on ethnographic data and postcolonial theory. He has also completed Level 1 training in conflict reconciliation from the University of Rhode Island, USA, and has experience mentoring MS research on topics including gender, security, institutional resilience, migration, climate change, informal economy, and overall contributing to the mainstream theories from the margin.
