Research Group:

Community development is generally considered to be a core component of social work practice and knowledge. SWCD Research Group is set-up to bring the latest science to pressing societal issues that reach across the human lifespan. With the mission to understand and promote positive social development among diverse populations by:

· Conducting research on factors that influence development

· Developing & testing the effectiveness of interventions

· Studying service systems and working to improve them

· Disseminating science-based knowledge and tools for solutions

SWCD covers a wide range of research pursuits. These differ from one community to the other, and depend on the priorities, issues, plan, problems and solutions. The major components of SWCD are: Children, Youth & Families; Women & Elderly Populations; Inequalities, Justice & Social Change; Well-being, Education and Politics;

Society and Culture; Poverty Alleviation; and Agricultural and Allied activities.

SWCD Research Group is currently working under the supervision of:

Dr. Arslan Waheed (PhD – ZEF University of Bonn, Germany)

Current/Completed Research Projects:

Title & Time Period: Human Health Degradation due to Industrial Air Pollutants amongst Residents in the Vicinity of Islamabad Industrial Estate (IEI), Pakistan, Year 2021/22.

Funding Body & Ref. No: Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan – (NRPU)

Worth & Role: PKR 3.83 m./USD 23000. Dr. M. Ammad Khan as Co-PI.

Description: The aim of this study is to find the relationship between gastrointestinal issues amongst residents with accommodation closer to Industrial Estate Islamabad (IEI). Furthermore, to digout the preventive measures adopted by the affected residents and the government’s response to both air pollution and health degradation. It is to check the policy and execution gap in the policies and strategies. It was to gauge the issues in the planned capital city of Islamabad and suggest possible measures to local effected population as well the federal government to take effective measures to safeguard human lives in the city – this will IV-level of study of which 1st study is published, 2nd submitted and 3rd in on-going.
